Education PROGRAM MANAGER

Aug 2018-present

I currently work for Common Threads Farm, a garden and food education nonprofit serving Whatcom County, Washington. In this position I juggle many responsibilities:

  • Training and supervising a large team of AmeriCorps members. Our members generally arrive with limited experience in teaching and gardening, and sometimes in general professional skills as well, so this is a large part of my position.

  • Developing and leading trainings for classroom teachers to support incorporating climate change into their lessons and how to effectively teach outside.

  • Improving garden and cooking curriculum.

  • Supporting camp and community programming.

GARDEN COORDINATOR

September 2011-June 2018

I absolutely loved my seven years working at Adelante Spanish Immersion School. I gained so much by sticking around and getting to know the students, teachers, parents, and school staff. Every year that passed, I gained more and more street cred with the students and teaching (and feeding them vegetables) became easier and easier. I’m most proud to say that I helped make salad cool for the students at this school.

NATURALIST

September 2007-June 2011

I spent four years being called “Fluke” as a naturalist educator in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California. Each week a different group of fifth or sixth graders came to our site to explore and learn from nature while having fun. Hiking in the redwoods, night hikes to the pond, and tidepooling on beach day are what I miss the most about this time of my life.
